A multiparameter investigation of syngas/diesel dual-fuel engine performance and emissions with various syngas compositions

Syngas, also known as producer gas or wood gas, is a gaseous biofuel produced by gasification of biomass. It mainly composed hydrogen and carbon monoxide with smaller share methane, all diluted nitrogen dioxide. Despite having in its composition, since it made from biomass, considered low to zero-carbon being so makes one candidate for reducing emissions internal combustion engines. This work focuses on the effect different syngas compositions performance exhaust compression ignition engine decane pilot injection diesel surrogate. Results showed that thermal efficiencies over 39% are possible variety less than 10% energy contribution decane. NOx soot were generally lowered increasing syngas/decane ratio, whereas CO Total HC increased. Additionally, relations between performance/emissions fundamental properties varying Syngas established. Further investigation other properties, such stretch sensitivity syngas/air flame, needed order better predict optimum operability.
